Descriptions of Pups

The pups are at Allagante down in Oregon, Click the link to see latest pix. Personality descriptions follow:

Raincoast Allagante Jericho: Irish Marked Cream
Jericho came out first and continues to be one of the biggest pups. He is an explorer and a snuggler with a beautiful light cream coat. He loves to cuddle up to his mom or any person around him. He’s also very playful, jumping on any puppy’s head that happens to be nearby. Jericho was the first to venture out of the plastic pool and once he discovered the big world around him, he was hooked on it. We couldnt keep him in after that.

Raincoast Allagante Rashima: Irish Marked Silver Brindle
Gentle and loving with a streak of independence. He doesnt make the first move but he’s always on the bandwagon. Rashimi can fall asleep anywhere and is one of the first pups to display the classic silken behavior of sleeping on his back with his feet up in the air. He is very responsive to visitors and loves to be handled…as they all do.

Raincoast Allagante Oberon: Irish Marked Red Brindle
This precious boy is smaller in stature than his two older brothers. He is a cuddler and lover. He may be a quieter pup, but he holds his own in a battle, grrring and yipping with the best of them. He’s no pushover. He does like to watch others get into trouble. In that sense, he’s probably the smartest of the bunch!

Raincoast Allagante Sashi: Irish Marked Red Brindle Spotted on White
This boy is is a real head-turner. His markings are as striking as his playful personality. He is an eater: big, assertive, and drop dead gorgeous. He’ll trudge through the pups, jump on someone for a quick tussel, then fall over into sleep. Then he awakens and does it all over again. What a funny, charming, loveable character he is.

Raincoast Allagante Elara: Irish Marked Silver Brindle Spotted on White
Elara is elegant like her mother. She likes to be in the center of the pile but doesnt venture too far from the nest. She is careful but not fearful; active but not aggressive. Cleo favored her from the getgo, often carrying her onto the couch. Elara is a true lady, beautiful and snuggly beyond measure.

Raincoast Allagante Miracle: Irish Marked Red Sable
Miracle’s name says it all. The last of the pups, she is also the most amazing. She was born about 12 hours after Elara and we all thought she was dead. She finally popped out totally healthy, perfect in every way, with a stunning coat. She is one of the smaller pups but is no shrinking violet. Miracle waited until the right time to be born and then she came in like gangbusters. She does the same thing now. She watches and waits for the best moment, then jumps in with all four paws. She’s a hearty eater and a warrior of the first rank. A remakable, loving little pup with a spirit as big as the world.

Missing those Pups

We all the miss the pups. they settled nicely into Karen’s and Paul’s ranch down in Oregon. Cleo is there with them until the pups are weaned, then she’ll come back home to us. The puppies made the trip with no trouble, and had no problem with the new nest. They are incredibly resilient, especially after a 5 hour ride. Karen tells us that she is very impressed with the beauty and quality of the pups. Whew. Mighty quiet around here these days…

So Long Puppy Cam

Tonight will be the last evening of the puppy cam. The pups and Cleo are heading south to live in a better home for puppies. Cleo will return after the pups are naturally weaned. Sadly, there’s no puppy cam at Allagante Silkens. Karen and Paul already have 14 puppies (yes 14) from a litter just two weeks ago. They are nothing short of heroic. Good thing our pups are a bit older and able to manage themselves better. It’s a 5.5 hour drive to Oregon from here. It’ll be a road trip for me, Holly and Sam, Cleo and pups, and Nigel, our other silken. Nigel just comes along for the ride. He’s a great traveler. I’ll miss the puppy cam and the pups, but this is best for them. Sigh. I’ll post a final update about the pups after we return late Sunday night.

Big change is coming very soon

Well, once again the puppies have made a quantum leap in activity and interests. We’ve widened their arena but they need more space and conditions that are more appropriate for their development. In a few days they will likely be heading south to their second home with Allagante Silken Windhounds in Oregon. (I’ll drive them.) Cleo will travel with her babies and then live in Karen & Paul’s spacious home — a cozy house that is well set up for puppies of all ages. Cleo and the pups will enjoy their vacation spot until the babies are ten to twelve weeks of age. Then we’ll bring Cleo home and the puppies will be ready to adopt.

So…. watch the puppy cam for a few more days. There’s no cam at Karen’s place.

Mush mess

Now that the puppies are starting into semi-solid food, the poop quantity is skyrocketing. If you watch the puppy cam and wonder why we havent cleaned it up,  its probably because we havent seen it yet. During the day when I’m at work, the puppies can go for half a day without a human visitor. And Cleo is no longer managing it herself. (Who can blame her?) So please understand that we do indeed keep the pups and their nest area clean. I do laundry almost constantly. But sometimes they get very busy when we are away from the house. Translation: poop-ville. <grin> Here’s a photo of Sashi with a determined look on his face. sashiready

two more pix

I can resist uploading these:

And another lineup

The pups look more like dogs less like little canine blobs. There’s alot of play fighting. They are eating puppy mush a couple of times a day and respond to sounds. Here’s another photo of the gang in a line:

I found the camera

Life is good, the camera is back. To wit:

Still Here

Hi Folks, havent posted for a few days. Sorry. As you can see, the puppies are very busy. They’ve started lapping up puppy mush and are also escaping from the nest regularly. We’ve blocked a wider area for them so they can run around a bit, along with a ramp to return into the nest. They’re getting into mock fights and growling/barking with each other, all healthy, vibrant, and full of spunk. They also continue to pee and poop EVERYWHERE. Sigh. I havent updated photos yet because, well, I can’t find the darn camera. But I’ll find it and get them up. The pups have changed so much I’m anxious to post new photos.

Dremel time

The puppies claws are so sharp and tiny. we’ve been trimming them but they are still very sharp. I feel so bad for Cleo. It has to hurt. So we bought one of those little trimming dremmels made for pets. We’ll be very very careful with it. We also bought a puppy nursing bottle to help supplement the puppies diet. They’re almost ready to start lapping up puppymush — three weeks old this Saturday.
